TOPIC: A RIGHTFUL KING SHALL TAKE HIS PLACE
OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, make me more like you through the power of your word as I meditate on it.
Scripture: Ezekiel 21:18-32
Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?
God makes it clear that the destruction of Jerusalem will be by the king of Babylon (v.19). God would use him to punish both Rabbah, the Ammonites’ capital city, and Jerusalem, the fortified capital of Judah (v.20). The prophet was to set a signpost to direct the king of Babylon to the two cities. Note how the Babylonian king would decide which of the two cities to attack first. Read vs.21-22.

It was difficult for many of God’s true prophets to understand why God would use a heathen to execute His judgment on His chosen people. We may not understand it either and we should therefore not presume on the mercy of God or take His favours for granted. God sends a strong warning to all leaders today, like He did to the profane and wicked prince of Israel (believed to be king Zedekiah). Their time shall be ripe for His punishment if they remain unrepentant.
Many countries in Africa have seen disappointing leadership. Leaders with neither regard for God nor the wellbeing of their people at heart. Let’s pray and hope for better leadership in Africa. However, God has promised us a perfect leader to whom the kingdom rightfully belongs – Christ Jesus our Lord (v.27; Genesis 49:10; Luke 1:32).
